Obituary for Robert Lardon

Robert Lardon
Robert G. “Bob” Lardon, 98, of South Bend, passed away peacefully in the early morning hours of Saturday, September 30, 2017 at Signature Health Care. He was born to the late Gus and Tollie (Pare) Lardon on March 27, 1919 in South Bend. Bob was wed to his first wife and mother of his children, Eleanor K. Shaul, September 7, 1940 until her passing on June 13, 2001. He later married Ailene Lang in 2005 and they celebrated 12 wonderful years together. Bob served his country during WWII as a Sergeant in the United States Army Air Corps. He was also a United States Postal Carrier for 31 years. When he retired, Bob worked at Eberhart-Petro Municipal Golf Course in Mishawaka. He loved to golf, play cards, was a member of the Euchre Club at Leeper Park as well as the Battell Community Center, and liked to try his luck at the local casinos. He also enjoyed dancing. Dancing is what brought Bob and his wife, Ailene, together. Bob and Ailene liked to travel and spent the winter months together in Florida. He was a past member of the Elkhart Moose Lodge, American Legion Post #161, VFW Post #360, and the Elks Lodge #235. He was an active member of St. Pius X Catholic Church in Granger. Most important of all, Bob was a loving husband, father, and grandfather with a great sense of humor. Bob is survived by his loving wife, Ailene; son, Mark Lardon; daughters, Margaret (James) McAllister and Sherry Achele; step-sons, Stanley (Karen) Wawrzyniak, Joseph (Sharon) Wawrzyniak, and John (Janelle) Wawrzyniak; step-daughters, Mary (Conrad) Roberts, Stella (Christian) Obering, and Diana (Michael) McCormick; three grandchildren, one great-grandchild, and several step-grand and step-great-grandchildren. In addition to his parents and first wife, Bob was preceded in death by his brother, Earl Lardon; sisters, Thelma Thompson and Lucille Johnson, and his grandson, Carl Ernest Rosin. The family will receive friends from 12:30-1:30 pm Tuesday, October 10, 2017 at St. Pius X Catholic Church, 52553 Fir Rd., Granger. Mass of Christian Resurrection follows at 1:30 pm. Arrangements through Chapel Hill Funeral Home, 10776 McKinley Hwy. Bob’s family wishes to extend their sincere gratitude to the staff at Signature Health Care in South Bend as well as Heart to Heart Hospice, for their caring and compassion. In honor of Bob’s legacy, please direct memorial contributions to Heart to Heart Hospice, 620 W. Edison Rd., Mishawaka, IN 46545.
